Sims, R., Knight, S. & Houghton, E., 2020-2021, East Devon AONB Lidar Assessment and Desk based Assessment (Interpretation). SDV363914.

A large approximately oval shaped earthwork circa 50m by 30m is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The depression corresponds with an enclosure depicted within a plot recorded as 'Third Moor and Pit' in the Tithe Map. It also corresponds with one of two vegetation filled 'Old Clay Pits' depicted on the First and Second Edition OS maps and depicted as an earthwork on subsequent maps. A wide ditch extends from its northern part and may have been an access track. The depression is interpreted as a post-medieval to 19th century clay pit, that ceased extraction by the end of the 19th century.
A subtle earthwork mound is visible on the northern side of the second depicted clay pit and is interpreted as a spoil heap.
