Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

Site of a track shown on 19th century map running north from Stoneman's Lane to the north of Great Torrington to a 'Ford' across Common Lake at SS49321983.

Exeter Archaeology, 2004, Archaeological assessment of land adjacent to Dartington Crystal, Great Torrington, 4 (Report - Assessment). SDV338048.

The 1887 Ordnance Survey map depicts a trackway running approximately north to south through the site area. At its south end the trackway joined with Stoneman's Lane and another track running westward behind the New Street properties. At its north end it joined with trackways leading to and beyond the farms of Hill, Norwood, Priestacott and Coombe. As the trackways cuts diagonally across the medieval strip lynchets, it may well be of post-medieval origin. The route survives as a right of way although the alignment has been altered. Other details: Figures 4-5.
