Several irregular shaped depressions are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data. They are situated on the east bank of the River Tamar near Buse’s Mill Bridge in an area that matured into woodland over the 20th century.
The earthworks correspond in part with a quarry depicted on 19th century historic maps and modern maps. By the Ordnance Survey 25-inch Second Edition Map, the quarry is depicted with small trees and therefore probably ceased to be worked by this time.
A small depression to the south of the depicted quarry does not correspond with any historic or modern mapped features. This is interpreted as further extraction associated with the quarry that was probably undertaken in the 19th century and ceased in the early 20th century.
The earthwork depressions were transcribed as part of the 2020-2021 Tamar/Lidar project.
