Fragments of the medieval field system are evident on the 19th century map.

The majority of the area to the west of the B3193 road originated as open strip fields which were probably first enclosed during the later medieval period. Part of the open field system around Preston is still evident on the 19th century Tithe Map. Other details: Fig 3.
