Full description

Beacham, P., 1980s, Broadhembury and Gittisham Project, 9/37, Neg No. 565/12-15 (Un-published). SDV348235.

Rethatched January 1971 as part of a thatching project grant aided by Devon County Council.
Site visit 1983. Thatch in good condition. Stone and cob walls.

Hembercombe Farmhouse. House. Described in 1956 as "Formerly 2 cottages. Plastered walls and thatched roof. 2s. wood casements. ? C18. Group value". Access to land unobtainable at time of survey (1987/88). The house retains its thatch. One of a group of thatched houses and cottages on the lane to Broadhembury Common just outside the village. This building may be earlier than C18.
