Beacham, P., 1980s, Broadhembury and Gittisham Project, 9/36, Neg No. 565/11 (Un-published). SDV348235.

Harnells Cottage. Rethatched in 1980 as part of a thatching project grant aided by Devon County Council.
Site visit 1983. Newish thatch in good condition.

Hembercombe Farm Cottage. Small house. Probably C18 or earlier. Whitewashed and rendered; thatched roof, hipped at left end, gabled at right end; right end stack and axial stack. Plan: Single depth 2 room plan with a projection to front right, present entrance through a rear lean-to. Plan form not entirely clear as interior not inspected. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 2 window front with a 2-storey projection at the right end with a catslide roof. 3-light timber casements, probably C20, with glazing bars. Interior: Not inspected but may be of interest. One of a group of thatched houses and cottages on the lane to Broadhembury Common, just outside the village, probably a commoner's cottage.
