Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

'Sluice' marked on early 20th century map. On leat off 'River Bray' at edge of patch of woodland.

A probable Post Medieval leat or water channel is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork west of South Lydcott Wood, Brayford. A sluicegate is depicted as part of the leat on the 2nd edition Ordnance Survey map. The precise function of the leat remains uncertain. Other details: Monument Number 1488918.

Lydcott retains evidence of a very complete water management system including the remains of leats and stone built sluice gates and weirs.
