Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

Site of farm at 'Lydcott Hall' shown on 1880s-1890s 25 inch Ordnance Survey map, comprising range of buildings around north and east sides of a yard with a pump, with further buildings to the south. A range of buildings was subsequently built along the west side of the yard and is shown on the 1904-1906 map.

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

Knight, S., 2008, Site visit to Lydcott House, Brayford (Personal Comment). SDV340563.

Lydcott is recorded at Litlecote in 1261. It is unclear whether this relates to the farm or the settlement further to the south east but the latter is perhaps more likely to be a later development along the road. There are some amorphous lumps in the field to the east which the landowner saw possible wall foundations. These may be the remains of former farm buildings or more significant buildings. The farmstead was substantially altered between the time of the first and second editions of the Ordnance Survey map.
