Tidal water still enters Horsey Island through a sluice near the north east corner.

Manning, C., 2007, Braunton Marsh Management Study 2007, 28 (Report - non-specific). SDV341104.

After repairs to the Horsey Embankments following the storm of 1910, the wing walls on either side of the sluice were pulled down and replaced, and the banks to the side protected with rough stone pitching.
