HER Number:MDV7469
Name:Possible long barrow near the top of Chittleford Hill

Summary

A possible site for a neolithic long barrow was found in the field walls by the roadside near the top of chittleford hill. There is a very large orthostat or shiner standing here which may have been the capstone. A nearby field is known as shelson ley, which points to the existence of a cromlech. The walls of the fields contain a large number of exceptionally large slabs and pillar like stones, such as might have formed part of a megalithic tomb (french).
