Nos 27 to 35, Clarence Hill. Probably circa 1840 stucco terrace of 5 houses with 2 storeys to Clarence Hill, and 3 storeys to Brown's Hill. Brown's Hill front has arcade to ground floor with heavy circular piers and rusticated voussoirs, now altered and with later pebble dash. Label moulds.

House built circa 1840-50 and renovated circa 1990. Mixed construction; mostly plastered stone rubble, but parts, including first-floor front, are plastered timber-framing; plastered brick end stacks with old pots; slate roof, hipped to right. Plan: 2 rooms wide, one room deep, with central front doorway to stairs. Exterior: 2 storeys and attic; symmetrical 2-window front. Plastered front has shallow jetty at first-floor level. Central doorway has stucco surround; flat architrave on shallow console brackets. Doorway is recessed up 3 stone steps, and contains replacement panelled door under narrow plain overlight. Windows are horned 12-pane sashes without hoodmoulds, unlike the adjoining houses on Clarence Hill. Plastered rear 3-window range; 16-pane sashes to the basement and doorway to right containing a good original panelled door with vertical mouldings to the bottom panels; tall 12-pane sashes, of unusual horizontal glazing pattern and only 2 panes wide, to ground floor and conventional 12-pane sashes to the first floor. Probably replacement timber eaves cornice. Interior: not inspected but likely to be of interest. Cast-iron spear-headed railings surmount stone revetment wall to Browns Hill to rear. End house in a contemporary terrace of 5, comprising Nos 27-33 (odd) Clarence Hill and No.30 Browns Hill (previously No.35 Clarence Hill). The houses are built towards the top of the valley overlooking the town centre from which the rear elevation can be clearly seen.
