Barn approximately 10 metres north of Talaton Farmhouse. Late 17th - early 18th century, reroofed in the 19th century. Flemish bond red brick; slate roof, originally thatch. Double barn facing south-east. It contains 2 pairs of full height double doors onto the 2 threshing floors. The doorways, which contain 19th century flapped double plank doors, are flanked by short projecting midstrey walls and above the eaves are carried down a short distance as canopies. In between the doorways and at each end are slightly recessed bays each of which contain hayloft loading hatches. The roof is gable-ended.
Interior: Open to the roof which is carried on a series of 19th century king post trusses. At this time the walls were raised a short distance to accommodate the lower pitch of the slate roof.
This is an attractive late 17th - early 18th century barn. It represents an early use of brick in rural Devon. Other details: LBS No. 86932.
