French, h. /tda/95(1963)159/field names in widecombe in the moor. Burrow close occurs on pitton (french).

Field no 143, burrow close, arable land (tithe map). Vis=23/8/1979 (dcra). Grass. Field boundary gone. A large ridge remains between 143 and 144. A large heap of earth and stones lies in the nw corner of the field as it stands (probably in 136) under some trees. Modern name butter close.(dcra).
