Full description
Hawken, S., 2006, Stokenham House: Archaeological Investigation (Report - non-specific). SDV342123.
Geophysical survey and archaeological evaluation undertaken in 2006 revealed evidence of possible prehistoric and/or Post Medieval activity. A substantial ditch approximately 2 metres wide by 2 metres deep was excavated in Trench 2. It was interpreted as either a Prehistoric enclosure ditch or related to the moated site to the south. A ditch excavated to the north of Stokenham House was interpreted as part of the western circuit of a potentially major Medieval enclosure which was infilled in the late 13th to early 14th century. A possible timber structure was noted within the enclosure. Pottery recovered from the excavation dated from 11th to 14th century.
