Full description

HARRIS, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV22166.

On either side of the haytor-widecombe road, just east of hemsworthy gate, the surface remains of hemsworthy mine can be seen, forming a typical open cast cut. Mining was carried on here intermittently during the mid-19th century on the site of the former workings of the "old men". Productions of 16 tons of black tin was recorded for 1853-1855. Working was by shallow underground aditsand shafts which are now filled.(harris).
