Full description

A rectilinear earthwork platform was visible.

Level platformed area directly north of Bushy Knap mound approximately 50 metres by 35 metres and kidney shape in plan. Ditched between platform and mound.
Hawken, S., 2004 - 2007, Two previously unidentified Motte and baileys within east Devon, 1 - 2 (Report - Assessment). SDV342118.
Motte and bailey positioned for space for single bailey and view-shed to the south coast, perhaps overlooking deer park. Not as defensive as Buckerell Knap.

A roughly rectangular earthwork platform or terrace 95 by 45 metres in size was visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014, immediately to the north-west of the mound at Bushy Knapp. A steeply graded ditch 6 to 10 metres wide separates the platform from the mound.
The earthworks are tentatively interpreted as part of the outworks a small motte and bailey of probable medieval date.
