Landowner has recently cleared vegetation around these Second World War structures which he thinks may have housed the 'big gun' that targeted Saunton Sands and also possibly signaling equipment.

The rectangular structure is visible.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S., 2011 - 2012, North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV349018.

A rectangular structure circa 8.5 by 5 metres in size is visible on aerial photographs taken from 1946 onwards, adjacent to a trackway on the south-western boundary between Braunton Great Field and Braunton Marsh. The structure can be clearly seen on aerial photographs throughout the 1950s but is obscured throughout the following decades by vegetation growth. It is clearly visible once again on interactive digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2010. The function of the structure is unclear from the aerial phiotographs alone but a Second World War date and military function are possible.
