Summary

A series of 'reverse-J' shaped field boundaries are depicted on available 19th century historic maps and some unmapped field boundaries are visible as earthwork banks and ditches on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013. These field boundaries indicate the former presence of a medieval strip field system.

Series of 'reverse-J' shaped hedgelines on Ordnance Survey 1886 map (some survive) suggests the former presence of medieval strip fields, with the irregular northern boundary suggesting it was once formed by a lane. Other details: 1999.

A curvilinear ditch circa 3 metres in widt,h and a curvilinear bank circa 5 metres in width, both orientated approximately north-south are visible as subtle earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013. The earthworks do not correspond with any features depicted on available 19th century historic maps, however they are in parallel with depicted ‘reverse-J’ shaped field boundaries. The earthworks are interpreted as medieval field boundaries that formed part of the strip field system, and that passed out of use prior to circa 1840. They were transcribed as part of the 2020-2021 Tamar/Lidar project.
