(29/04/1960) One of two millstones near a relief cross near summit of Rippon Tor. Circular and definitely millstones.

Millstone 30 metres west of summit rocks and just west of reave. Roughly worked, no central hole, diameter 1.5 metres, height 0.2 metres

Site visit 1999. Millstone rough out 15 metres south-west of Rippon Tor summit at SX74667555. Second of two millstones mistaken for cross base near summit of Rippon Tor.

Second millstone at Rippon Tor was slightly more complete than the one closer to the summit but still waits for the final quadrant of stone to be chipped free.

One of three earth fast abandoned millstones which lie together with a carved cross on the southern edge of the outcrop. The millstones were all abandoned prior to completion for some reason, perhaps due to a defective stone or defective workmanship. Date unknown but could be anytime between the medieval period and the 19th century and each artefact may well be of a different date.
