Full description

Department of National Heritage, 19/04/1993, Bideford, 76 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV338459.

House. Early or mid 19th century. Solid rendered front. Slate roof. Late 20th century brown-brick chimney on left side-wall. Three storeys; 2-window range. Ground storey has horizontal channelling. Four-panelled door in right-hand bay; moulded cornice on consoles above. 3-light window to left with sashes of 6 panes in the centre and of 2 panes at either side; at the top of the window-frame between centre and side-lights a pair of consoles. Upper-storey windows have 6-paned sashes (the third-storey sashes with horns), except for the left-hand second-storey window, which takes the form of a flat-topped canted bay. This has an entablature at the top with deeply-projecting cornice; sash-windows, the middle one with 12 panes below and 8 above, the outer ones with 6 panes below and 4 above. Front finished with entablature having a deeply-projecting cornice. Interior not inspected, except that entrance has a half-glazed inner door with 2 small moulded panels in the lower part; small-paned glazing with margin-panes above.

Inspection of adjacent buildings by Peter Child in 1976 revealed late 17th century features behind the 18th-/19th century exteriors.
