Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880s, Ordnance Survey (Cartographic). SDV848.

Site of 'Upcott Mine (Copper & Lead disused)' shown on OS 25" (1880s) map as an L- shaped earthwork in the southwest corner of the field with three small square buildings & a 'Shaft'.

Worked by the new Florence Mine Company (see PRN 694) between 1884-86, when its production figures were included in those of Florence Mine.1887 OS survey marks it 'Upcott Mine (Copper & Lead disused)' and shows one building, a shaft, 2 dumps and a reservoir. At first the mine was drained & powered by a portable steam engine.
