Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

Three parallel adjoining buildings shown on 19th century map in the centre of the yard at Venn farm.

Gillard, M. + Humphreys, C. + Laing-Trengrove, D., 2005, The Working Horse Stable, Venn Farm, East Putford: Results of a Historic Building Survey and Monitoring and Recording during Development Works, 5-7 (Report - Survey). SDV342621.

Removal of 20th century concrete in the former working-horse stable at Venn farm revealed a cobbled floor with a shallow gully or drain in the centre. Removal of render on the walls revealed minor alterations suggesting the building was a partial rebuild of an earlier structure. Excavation on the site of the shippon to the north of the stable revealed a roughly cobbled surface with a drain relating to the 19th century building. Cobbling was also revealed in a service trench in the yard to the west of the stable.

Keystone Historic Buildings Consultants, 2006 - 2008, Venn Farm, East Putford, 34-7 (Report - Survey). SDV342620.

Working horse stable built circa 1880, the only surviving part of a larger building originally comprising a double gable-ended block with the stable to the south, a shippon to the north and a further lean-to to the north of the shippon which was a calf house and root store. The three parts are shown on 19th and early 20th century maps and the two northern parts were demolished in 1994.
