'Foot Bridge' shown on 19th century map with a 'Ford' to the southeast.

Footbridge shown on 19th century map is a small clapper bridge.


Newman, P., 2011, An Archaeological Assessment of Fernworthy Down, Bridestowe, Devon (Report - Assessment). SDV347937.

A stone clapper bridge constructed from two rectangular stone slabs of 1.3m by 0.6m and one upright support, which spans the un-named brook at the south end of the down. It provided a crossing point for the Lydford to Okehampton route described above. The date is unknown but likely to be 19th century as it is marked on the OS 25” map of 1884-6 but not on the Tithe of 1841.
