Walls, S. + Bampton, J., 01/08/2012, Poole Farm, Slapton, Results of a Desk-Based Assessment Additional Historic Building Recording Archaeological Watching Brief (Report - Excavation). SDV350166.

The Root house, largely 19th century in structure of thin mortared slate rubble construction with a root chute inserted into an earlier chimney and fireplace in the western elevation of a former medieval chamber-block. The 19th century cobbled floor partially survivied against the northern elevation, where it overlay the partial remains of a slate flagged floor which may have been contemporary with the first phase of ise of this building.

The hay barn/linhay had been truncated to its 1 and a half storey form from a former two-storey structure. The southern elevation having been rebuilt to form a narrower building in the 1960s.

The pigsty was single storey lean-to constructed of well dressed and coursed slate slabs bonded with clay.

Large building shown on 19th century map on the north side of the yard to the west of the farmhouse at Poole Farm.

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

Shown as two long narrow adjoining buildings on early 20th century map.

Waterhouse, R., 2007, Pool Farm, Slapton: An Archaeological Appraisal (Report - Assessment). SDV343267.

The shippon at Pool Farm appears to have been narrowed and truncated to its present structure. The north wall may be of early 18th century date and contains fragments of carved Beer stone including part of a 15th century window. The clay-bonded rubble wall suggests a 17th or early 18th century date. A secondary building was added probably in the 18th century as a single storey lean-to on the north side and probably used at pigsties or calf houses.
