Full description
Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.
Milestone marked 'Dartmouth 4/Kingsbridge 11 M.S.' on 1880s-1890s 25 inch Ordnance Survey map, on south side of road above 'Landcome Cove'.

Date of Survey: 26th August 2008. Milestone inscribed To/Kingsbe/11/To/Dartmo/4 situated at Matthew's Point at the western end of a lay by on the south side of the road built into a low wall. Worn but in fair condition. Rescued from an overgrown bank by Strete Parish Council in 2008. One of a remarkable run of milestones between Kingsbridge and Dartmouth. The Kingsbridge and Dartmouth Trust was founded in 1759 but the milestones are likely to be later in date, perhaps dating from 1854 when the road across Slapton Sands, the Slapton Line was built.
