Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

'Ferry' shown on 19th century map running south-east from the mine in Blindwell Wood on the west side of the River Tavy to Lopwell on the east side.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

'Ferry' is marked crossing the River Tavy.

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

The early 20th century 'Ferry' is shown running north-east further to the north on the River Tavy.

David Willey, 2015, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty River Weirs Project- River Tavy Denham Bridge to Lopwell (Report - Assessment). SDV366117.

The ferry across the Tavy at Lopwell is shown on the Ordnance Survey of 1883 and 1907 but disappears with the introduction of the dam. It has not yet been possible to identify the landing points on either bank although on the Bere Peninsular bank there is a disused mineshaft and a two storey structure that would seem to be associated with it. This house was used by the ferry workers.
