Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

'Capstan' shown at north-west corner of engine house, to west of second shaft. Map object based on this Source.

Nance, R. W. + Nance, R. D., 1996, A Survey of Engine Houses on the Mines of South Devon, 118-9 (Article in Serial). SDV241746.

The existing engine house is likely to date from 1873. A capstan and ropeway, directed towards the north end of the walled pit alongside the west wall, suggest that this enclosed the shaft and/or an angle bob (or balance box) connected to the crank by flatrods. Other details: Figure 13, plate 1.
