Upcott is mentioned as 'Uppecott' in 1219.


Ellis, D. A., 1992, Dowland Past and Present, 49 (Pamphlet). SDV344172.

Upcott was referred to as Uppacott and Upton and first mentioned in 1219. In 1241 it was held by John de Reigni together with Iddesleigh and then passed to Walter de Sully. The farmstead of West Upcott has outbuildings showing traces of an earlier dwelling and Higher Upcott and The Ridges are both old cottages
