Full description

Shippard chest tomb approximately 5 metres south of chancel of Church of St Mary. Dated 1733 in memory of William Shippard. Hamstone ashlar with slate side panels. Chest tomb. The soffit-moulded lid has a low-pitched ridge on top. The sides contain rectangular sunken panels with bead-moulded surrounds, 2 slate panels on each long side and single Hamstone panels each end. It sits on a moulded
plinth. The left panel on the south side is inscribed, the first word in Gothic lettering, the rest in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, and records the death of William Shippard in 1733. Date listed: 17th March 1988.
