Summary

Farmstead dates to at least the late 17th century, based on documentary sources. Depicted on the Tithe Map, the basic layout of the farm is largely the same, although there have been a few additional buildings added.

Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Rudge is depicted on the Tithe Map; 775 on the Lustleigh Apportionment 'House and courtlage etc.' The farmstead comprises a group of four large farm buildings with another two smaller central buildings. The building on the north of the farm has a horse engine house depicted n the southern side. Farmhouse is on the south of the farm and is as quite large rectangular building.

The late 19th century historic map matches the Tithe Map depiction of the farm.

Similar to the late 19th century map, except that a few small additional buildings have been added to the western side of the farm and on the north.

The modern map shows that two of the buildings to the north-west of the farm have been joined to create a larger structure. Otherwise, the layout is broadly similar to the historic map depictions. Horse engine house is now in ruins.
