Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments, Plots 1008-1009 (Cartographic). SDV359954.

'Alston' is depicted on the Tithe map, with a scattered range of buildings.

Some alteration to buildings noted by the late 19th century; barn has been extended, joining two of the buildings shown on the tithe map.

Alston Farmhouse and outbuildings are 19th century, although an associated 16th century threshing barn to the south (Dartmoor National Park Authority Historic Environment Record reference MDV62382), suggests an earlier and perhaps medieval origin to the farmstead.
Proposals set out to undertake archaeological monitoring and recording (controlled watching brief) associated with the reconstruction of the South Barn and remedial/conservation works to the North Barns at Alston Farm.
