Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments, Plot 901 (Cartographic). SDV359954.

'Homestead (Copplestone)' recorded on apportionment. Dwelling is rectangular and aligned south-west by north-east and lies in the centre; roughly L-shaped building to the north-west and two other additional buildings to the east of the house.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

Later 19th century historic map shows the layout of the farm unchanged, although it's possible the dwelling has now apparently moved into the building to the east.

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

By the early 20th century, the site of the building marked as dwelling on the Tithe Map is now gone. Structure to the east of the current dwelling also appears to be falling into disrepair.

Gover, J. E. B. + Mawer, A. + Stenton, F. M., 1932, The Place-Names of Devon: Part Two, 424 (Monograph). SDV337894.

McKay, K., 1994 - 1997, Dartmoor National Park Authority Farmstead Survey 1994-1997 (Report - Survey). SDV344544.

Copplestone Cottage. SX 818 877. Farmstead included in survey. Visited on 29/03/1995. Early 16th century farmhouse at the south-eastern end of the site recorded, along with barn (likely 18th century) and adjoining pig house (19th century) to the north-west of the farm. Two other main buildings shown on the Tithe Map are no longer in existence.

Ordnance Survey, 2024, Mastermap 2024 (Cartographic). SDV365834.

'Copplestone Cottage' is depicted on the modern mapping. A modern addition has been constructed over the site of the original dwelling depicted on the Tithe Map.
