Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

'Lakeland' shown on 19th century Tithe Map as a long L-shaped building in an irregular shaped enclosure. A small rectangular building is shown circa 75 metres to the west which is not shown on later maps.

'Lakeland' shown on 19th century map as a row of five adjoining buildings with a further rectangular building to the south-east all in an irregular shaped enclosure.

Lakeland was probably founded in the early 13th century. The original longhouse has gone although it was probably near the present farmhouse. The farm has a classic ringfence appearance with cornditch walls as the outer boundary indicating a Medieval date.
