Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Depicted on the Tithe Map; 1097 on the Chagford Apportionment.

Middlecott is ‘Midelcota’ in 1086, ‘Middelcote’ in 1238 and ‘Myddel-‘ in 1446.

Old Middlecott appears to have been established in the 11th century as a very small thegn's holding in poor country. The present farmhouse/milking parlour has developed from a 15th century longhouse open to the roof with probably a hearth central to the hall floor, converted in the mid-20th century.
