Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

'Mountshayne Farm' marked on 1880s-1890s 25 inch Ordnance Survey map, comprising chiefly two long ranges of buildings in an 'L' shape with the farmhouse on the north-west. There are also some additional buildings shown on the other side of the lane to the east with a track leading to a well.

Mountshayne Farm is first referred to as 'Maundeuillesheghs' in 1330, 'Maundesheghes' in 1359 and 'Mounsheyes' in 1566. It is to be associated with the family of Robert de Maundevill mentioned in connection with Awliscombe in 1299.
