The open-fronted linhay is 11 bays long and faces east onto the yard. The rear and southern end walls are built of local stone rubble; the north end is also open. The full-height posts at the front sit on limestone pads. The cross beams supporting the hayloft or tallet floor are set into the rear wall and are tusk-tenoned into the front posts ie they protrude through the post and pegged at the front into place. The posts have a horizontal, braced timber at the top which supports one end of the roof trusses.
The results of a dendrochronological analysis undertaken on timbers from the linhay and also the barn suggest two felling phases, in the spring-summer of 1785 and in the winter of 1786-7. As both buildings contain timbers from both phases they are likely to be contemporary, built in the late 1780s. This is much later than the expected date of c.1600-1700.

English Heritage, 2010, Historic Houses Register (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV154869.

Linhay approximately 20 metres west of Widhayes Farmhouse. Mid 17th century. Local stone rubble; corrugated iron roof, formerly thatch. 11-bay open-fronted linhay on a roughly north-south axis facing onto the farm courtyard to east. The crossbeams carrying the tallet/hayloft floor are tusk-tenoned into full height front posts standing on stone pads, (Alcock's linhay Type Tl). The oak beams and posts are chamfered with scroll stops. The posts have a kind of hammer beam arrangement to carry the outer principals of the A-frame truss roof with pegged lap-jointed collars. Roof is hipped each end. The high quality finish of this linhay distinguishes it from most other contemporary linhays in Devon. It also forms a group with Widhayes Farmhouse and the other farmbuildings here. Date listed 5th April 1966.

Ordnance Survey, 2010, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV344030.
