Reservoir pond shown on 1867 Bedford Estates survey map, visible at ground level but partly obscured by trees and leaf build up. Approximately 18.0 metres by 18.0 metres, with extant west and north sides. The inside of the pond is approximately 0.5 metres below ground level and the banked walls 0.5 to 0.7 metres above ground level. The source of the water cannot easily be seen from map evidence. It may be the case that the water was pumped up one of the shafts, piped to the reservoir and allowed to settle. Other details: Figure 35, site 8. Map object based on this Source.

Clive Meaton, 2023, Gawton Mine, Devon- Costed and Prioritised Proposals for Capital Works for the Conservation and Management of Gawton Mine Scheduled Monument (Redacted Costs Version), 41 (Report - Survey). SDV366131.

The 1867 Bedford Estates Map illustrated this site as a Reservoir Pond, supplying the former Dressing Floor (Site No. 7.1) and steam engine. In 2006, the earth banked side sides of the rectangular reservoir were visible, although the feature was partly obscured by trees and woodland detritus. The earthwork measured approximately 18 metres by 18 metres with surviving north and west sides. The interior of the reservoir was approximately 0.5 metres below the ground surface, and the top of the banked walls approximately 0.5 metres to 0.7 metres above ground level. It was recommended that trees should be removed from the feature and stumps treated. Moreover, the arisings from any vegetation clearance should be removed from the area so as not to obscure the leats. The Reservoir Pond was located beyond the Site boundary and was not surveyed. Other details: Site No. 8.
