The heap of mine waste to the north-west of Shallow Adit is testament to the amount of ore that was removed. It is likely that there was a tramroad within the adit and working level which connected to the surface tramroad from Pearce's shaft to the dressing floor. The rock heap was simply pushed westwards downslope on the western side of the mine track to the Bedford Consols mine, giving it a height of approximately 10 metres above downslope ground level.
