Farmstead dates to at least the early-mid 13th century, based on documentary evidence. The farmhouse has 15th century origins. Depicted on historic maps from the 1840s Tithe Map onwards. Included in the Dartmoor Historic farmstead survey (visited 1995).

Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments, Plots 370-373 (Cartographic). SDV359954.

'Hethercombe' is depicted on the 1842 Manaton Tithe Map. Single dwelling (farmhouse) is shown lying to the north of the stream (371: 'House, Road') with an associated agricultural building to the north, five further structures shown in a cluster to the south of the stream, with a field barn or similar to the south-east of the farm (370; 'House and homestead'). None of the buildings in the cluster are coloured as a dwelling on the map, but may have served as one.

Heathercombe is depicted on the late 19th century historic map. Largely similar to the Tithe Map depiction, although one of the buildings in the southern cluster (to north of the house) is gone and the building to the south of the house has been altered.

'Heathercombe' is recorded in documents from 1244 as 'Heddercumb', 1330 'Hedercomb', and 1413 as 'Hathercombe'.

South Heathercombe Farm (SX 719 810) included in survey. Visited on 06/11/1995. Buildings recorded include farmhouse in the north-east (probably late 15th century), with two linhay buildings (possibly 18th century) to the south of the house.
