Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

Tithe Map records Lake (47), layout consists of three main buildings surrounding a yard and a small structure alongside the lane leading south from the road to the farmstead.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

Late 19th century historic map seems to indicate the yard has been reduced in size and building on the north-west side may be new (this may be the result of inaccurate Tithe mapping for Meavy however). Some changes (additional wings / extensions appear to have been added to the remaining buildings to the east and south-east of the yard.

Gover, J. E. B. + Mawer, A. + Stenton, F. M., 1931, The Place-Names of Devon: Part One, 231 (Monograph). SDV1312.

Lake is recorded as 'Lak' in 1291 and 1408.

Dartmoor National Park Authority, 1993 - 1997, Dartmoor National Park Authority Farmstead Survey 1993-1997 (Report - Survey). SDV344544.

Farmstead included in survey. Visited on 19/01/1995.

Ordnance Survey, 2019, MasterMap 2019 (Cartographic). SDV362729.

Some additional buildings shown, but is largely unchanged from the 19th century historic map depictions.
