Full description
Buck, C., 2009, South Hooe Mine, Bere Alston, Devon: Archaeological Assessment, 37-8 (Report - Assessment). SDV344692.
Coal Quay is shown on the mine plan of 1856, linked to the mine by a tramway. It is likely it was of a similar design to the much larger Shipping Quay, constructed of verical timber posts set in the foreshore, upon which horizontal timbers were set to form the quay surface. There is no evidence for the timber posts, however there is localised evidence for the remains of a low revetment surface at the base of the inclined scarp tramway on the upper edge of the river foreshore.
