Full description

Building labelled 'Dwelling Houses' on the 1856 mine plan. There appears to have been at least two houses, with what seems to be an outside toilet for both attached to the side of the rear house. By the 1880s they had been reduced to one house, a room of which is still extant, containing a fireplace. This was repointed with cement in 2007, the masonry re-roofed with slate, and a new concrete floor added. These houses were probably built to house mine workers, possibly the three Engine House Captains. Other details: Figures 6, 15, site 17. Map object based on this Source.
