Farmstead at Gooseford dates to at least the 16th/17th century, based on the age of the farmhouse. Included in Dartmoor Historic farmstead survey, it was visited in 1995, along with Middle Gooseford Cottage and related buildings.

Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments, Plots 338, 340 (Cartographic). SDV359954.

Buildings to the east of the road are shown as two dwellings and an associated structure (338); to the west of the road are the farmhouse and one associated farm building (340).

Late 19th century historic map depicts layout of buildings similar to the Tithe Map, although by this time there has been a small structure added at the far eastern side of the building group. Changes at the western end include the alteration / construction of the barn to the north of the farmhouse and adjoining linhay building.

'Gooseford' is recorded in documents dating to 1249 as 'Goseford' and again in 1254.

SX 677 919. Higher Gooseford farmstead included in survey. Visited on 13/11/1995. Three buildings to the west of the road (west to east); farmhouse, barn and small connecting linhay. Farmhouse (listed) is 16th/17th century; other buildings are probably early 19th century. To the east of the road are a cottage, store and barn (in separate ownership), all 18th and 19th century in date.

Modern mapping labels this site as Higher Gooseford (west of the road), with Middle Gooseford Cottage to the east of the road. Higher Gooseford appears unchanged but buildings near Middle Gooseford Cottage appear to have been truncated since the earlier map depictions.
