In the main trench the footprint of a demolished stone-built incline base was located, while two substantial granite-built turntable pits were found between it and the river, where the railway line to the incline crossed the two quayside lines.

A water-powered incline plane was added to an existing bank of three limekilns at Morwellham, probably in 1817-18. As at Tavistock Wharf, this had parallel plateways on the quay alongside the Tamar, connected to an inclined plane via the two turntables (MDV78250-78251).
