Full description

Devon County Council, 1997-2002, Buildings at Risk Survey in the Devon Part of the Blackdown Hills AONB (Un-published). SDV344048.

Chest tomb 15 metres south-east of church. Early 19th century, Beer stone, moulded plinth, long side divided into fielded panels. Overgrown with ivy which needs removing before stone repairs can be considered. Incumbent to be notified of importance of monuments, in particular the chest tombs. Other details: Photos.

Two chest tombs about 15 metres south-east of the church of St Nicholas. Early 19th century. Freestone. Rectangular chests with moulded plinths, oversailing moulded lids, the chests with fielded panels. The western has a number of inscriptions, the earliest date 1822. An inscription on the south side commemorates Aemelia Petty, died 1827. The eastern chest tomb commemorates Richard Weeks, died 1835 and others. Date listed: 27th January 1989.
