Full description

Royal Air Force, 1946 - 1949, Royal Air Force Aerial Photographs (Aerial Photograph). SDV342938.

Francis, P., 1999, Exeter Airport. Historic Airport Survey for Devon County Council & East Devon District Council, 84 (Report - non-specific). SDV323390.

One of two Type B FCW 4513, 7161/41 fighter aircraft pens. Designed to house two twin-engined aircraft, and therefore larger than the earlier 11070/40 pens. This example has three defended walls. Pen in fair condition. Defended walls in good condition. Other details: Site 66; Map 8.

Pillbox Study Group, 2012, WWII Defence Sites, e10565 (Un-published). SDV357880.

Aircraft dispersal pen (Type B). Protected dispersal area for fighter aircraft.

Davis, R. A., 2014, Exeter Skypark, Devon, RGF Site Clearance and Landscaping: Historic Building Record, 9; Fig 2 (Report - Survey). SDV357036.

The two twin engined fighter pens were located within the area of the GRU and to the south and west of the main ‘CK’ and ‘DK’ flight areas. Study of aerial photographs has confirmed that they were constructed after May 1942. Fighter pen 66 had been demolished recently.
It is likely that the two twin-engined fighter pens were used by the GRU.
