Summary

A probable pillbox of Second World War date is visible as a structure between the eastern bank of the River Taw and the western edge of RAF Chivenor, on aerial photographs of the 1940s. It was possibly disguised with a false pitched roof. The structure is not visible on aerial photographs later than 1964.

A hexagonal pillbox of Second World War date is visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s to the 1960s as a structure centred in circa SS48333459, constructed into the sea wall on the eastern bank of the River Taw, on the western edge of RAF Chivenor. Corner loophole apertures and a possible false pitched, roof, probably constructed to disguise the structure, are visible on military oblique aerial photographs of 1944. The structure is not readily identifiable on aerial photographs of 1956 but might have survived to be visible on aerial photographs of 1964, appearing as a roughly circular structure. It is not visible on any later images available to the survey.
