Full description

Farnell, A. J., 2009, An Archaeological Trench Evaluation on Land Between Hill Barton Industrial Estate and the A3052 Exeter to Sidmouth Road, 5, 10-12 (Report - Evaluation). SDV345091.

Two sections of a slightly curvilinear ditch, aligned east to west, were located in trenches 29 and 30. They measured 1.1 metres wide, 0.45 metres deep in trench 29 and 0.7 metres wide, 0.31 metres deep in trench 30. Both sections had a moderately sloping southern side and steeply sloping northern side, with a narrow concave base. This is one of a group of features which are likely to represent boundaries and divisions associated with a rural settlement or farmstead dating from the first to the fourth centuries. Other details: Figures 5, 8/9. Map object based on this Source.

Tyler, K., 2011, Land at Hill Barton, Clyst St. Mary, Devon (Report - Excavation). SDV347853.

The excavation exposed the continuation of the linear feature exposed in evaluation trenches 29 and 30, although due to weather conditions and nature of the ground it was extremely difficult to see even when cleaned. No finds were recovered. Map object based on this Source.
