Remains of stone cross. At gulwell near ashburton, the shaft of a cross forms a seat by the roadside and the upper portion acts as the support to a cider vat. The bottom of the shaft is square and 279mm in diameter, 610mm from the bottom, the shaft is octagonal and four of the sides measure 127mm, and the remainder 102mm across. The total length is 1.6m. The measure of the upper portion is 635mm the bottom of the arms. The arms are 254mm in diameter, and the total length 1.118m. Near the place is a holy well. In 1933 the cross was re-erected by the presumed site of st. Gulwell's well, which is thought to have been its original site (see sx76ne/33)(omerod).
