A dry stone revetment wall surrounds all sides of the waste dump, which varies in height from 1 metre to 1.5 metres above ground level. At the south end, next to the site of Hamilton's Shaft, the waste mound extends above the wall on the east side to approximately 2 metres. At the northern end of the feature it extends above road level. The visual impact of the site's waste ground is somewhat minimised by the number of mature conifer trees which cover its interior and sides. It is unclear if these have been planted as part of an ornamental landscape or for timber production, or have seeded naturally . At a few locations trees growing close to the wall are dislodging stones. Other details: Figures 7, 10, 13-14, 17: site 3.
